The Running Scared event offers two race distances in Spokane, Washington, with a Halloween themed atmosphere and costumes encouraged. The event gathers at Fish Lake Trailhead, with the Start and Finish located in Captain William Clark before runners continue onto a paved river trail.
Distances
- 5K
- 13K
All participants receive a long sleeve race shirt and a custom finisher medal. A Deadly Double option is offered for those who complete both the 5K and the 13K; the top three male and female finishers for the Deadly Double receive special recognition.
Awards are given to the Top Three Male and Female Overall finishers in each distance, to the Top Three in Masters, Grand Masters, and Senior Masters Overall categories, and to the top three athletes in each five year age group for both distances.
The course runs along the river and is described as flat and fast. Self serve water stations will be placed at roughly 1.5 mile intervals; runners who prefer not to stop may bring personal hydration. Participants must finish at a pace no slower than 16 minutes per mile. The deadline to guarantee a shirt size is September 30.
A virtual race option is available, letting participants run remotely, submit results online, and have results posted the Monday after the event date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
