Running Is For The Birds - Earth Day events
Amigos De Bolsa Chica, together with Bolsa Chica State Beach, is organizing a run, walk, and beach cleanup at Bolsa Chica State Beach, Lot 25 in Huntington Beach, CA. The event combines recreational runs with volunteer cleanup activities and an educational expo.
The course follows the beach on a flat, paved route described as fast and accessible for walking or running. Multiple event options are offered:
- Plover Dash - 5K
- Brown Pelican - 10K
- Fuzzy Feathers Kids Run
- 5K Plogging (picking up litter while jogging)
- 10K Plogging
- Beach Clean up only
Participants in the 5K, 10K, and plogging categories receive a custom commemorative medal, a limited edition race shirt designed by a local artist featuring Bolsa Chica birds, and free race day photos. Timing is provided with chip timing and results sync to Athlinks. The event includes overall and age group awards, a finish line festival with vendors and music, gear check, and a bike valet near the start area.
An expo before and after the event presents educational displays about the wetlands, including microscopes and information on local birds and habitat.
