Event Overview

Running Is For The Birds is a run, walk, and beach cleanup event on April 25, 2026, hosted by Amigos De Bolsa Chica in conjunction with Bolsa Chica State Beach. The event is part of an Earth Day celebration. The course is flat and paved, located along the beach with ocean views.

Event Location

The event takes place at Bolsa Chica State Beach, specifically in Lot 25. The address is 17851 Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Beach, CA 92649. Free beach parking is available before 8:00 AM if entrants use the main entrance kiosk on Pacific Coast Highway and state they are attending the event.

Event Options

Multiple activities are offered. The running events include:

• Plover Dash (5K run/walk)
• Brown Pelican (10K run/walk)
• Fuzzy Feathers Kids Run (a fun run for children)
• 5K Plogging (picking up litter while running or walking a 5K)
• 10K Plogging (picking up litter while running or walking a 10K)
• Beach Clean Up only (a standalone cleanup activity with State Beach staff)

Registration is required for all events. A fee applies to all except the Beach Clean Up only, which is free.

Participant Benefits

Registered participants in the 5K, 10K, and Plogging events receive a custom commemorative medal and a limited-edition race shirt designed by a local artist, featuring a different Bolsa Chica bird each year. Participants also receive free, downloadable race day photos. The event features professional chip timing, overall and age group awards, and a finish line festival with vendors, product samples, and music.

Additional Details

Gear check and a bike valet service are available near the start line. Proceeds from the event benefit environmental education and leadership programs through the non-profit Amigos de Bolsa Chica.
