Run for a Cause in Southeast Columbus

The 4th annual Running Against ALS takes place at Three Creeks Metro Park in Groveport, Ohio. This event was established to honor the memory of Officer Steve Asch, a Columbus police officer who served for 15 years. The race proceeds are donated to the ALS United Ohio grant program to support research and provide assistance to families navigating an ALS diagnosis.

Participants can select from several distance options held on a physical course or participate virtually. The in-person event offers a 5K and a 15K distance, as well as a relay option for the longer distance. For the 15K Relay, teams of three are formed where each member completes a leg of 3.1 miles.

The available distances include:

  • 5K Run/Walk (3.1 miles)
  • 15K Run/Walk (9.3 miles)
  • 15K Run/Walk - RELAY (teams of three)
  • Virtual 5K
  • Virtual 15K

The event features a multi-year medal series spanning from 2024 to 2027. Participants who finish races in consecutive years can combine their individual medals into a single larger display. Amenities for the race include early packet pickup, dedicated race day parking at the park, and awards for various categories. ALS United Ohio provides services such as equipment loans and one-on-one case management through the funds raised by this competition.
