Run with the Horses Marathon
The Run with the Horses Marathon is an annual road race held in Green River, Wyoming, at Green River Expedition Island, 475 S. 2nd E. It is organized by the Green River Chamber of Commerce and runs during the town's River Festival and Shrimp Boil.
Distances include:
- Marathon
- Half marathon
- 10K
- 5K
The course goes both on and off pavement and uses an out and back layout that reaches the top of Wild Horse Canyon. The route gains elevation early, reaching about 7500 feet just after the first two miles, and then returns along the same corridor. The setting is high desert, where temperatures can vary. Views from the canyon include the Palisades and possible sightings of wild horses and other wild animals.
Packet pick up and the start and finish are located near the festival area. A dinner is scheduled for the Friday night before the race during the festival. Participants receive a finisher medal, shirt, swag bag and race bib, though T shirts are not guaranteed for registrations after July 15. Past results are recorded for multiple years dating back to 2014. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
