9th Annual Run with the Govs
The Run with the Govs is a community running and walking event held in Pierre, South Dakota. This event consists of a single course distance:
- 3.5 miles
The route is a trail that winds through the center of South Dakota's capital city. Both the start and finish lines are located at the State Capitol building. The course features bronze statues of former state governors. Participants can run the course to see these highlights or walk the route to view the statues and history of the state leaders.
A specific leader is highlighted each year; for this edition, the featured figure is Peter Norbeck, the 9th Governor of South Dakota. Walking participants are encouraged to visit his statue at the corner of Pierre Street and Dakota Avenue.
The event is open to participants of all ages. This includes children in strollers and dogs on leashes. Registrations completed by June 1st include a guaranteed event t-shirt. Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners, as well as the top finishers in the age 12 and under category. Proceeds from registration fees and donations are contributed to the Trail of Governors Foundation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
