Run the Runway
Run the Runway is a 5K held on the runways and newly paved taxiways of Schenectady County Airport, an active facility with about 50,000 flight operations each year. The course uses the same runway operated by the New York State Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing and its LC-130 "Ski Birds," the only aircraft equipped to land on Antarctic ice.
The event welcomes runners, joggers, and walkers of all ages. Young participants age 12 and under may take part in a separate 1-mile fun run along the main runway; that fun run is free for those ages.
Distances:
- 5K course on airport runways and taxiways
- 1 mile fun run, free for ages 12 and under
The event is based at the Empire State Aerosciences Museum at Schenectady County Airport, 250 Ruby Chase Drive, Glenville, NY 12302. After the 5K, participants receive free admission to the museum for the day to view exhibits about aviation and Schenectady County's flight history. Registration for the 5K is listed at $35, with a discount available for active military, retirees, and veterans. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
