About the race

Run The Rock is a set of loop-style trail races held November 7-8, 2026, in Smith Rock State Park and the Crooked River National Grasslands near Bend, Oregon. The event includes multiple distances and emphasizes trail terrain and views of the Cascade Range from Mt Hood to Mt Bachelor.

  • 50K: loop course, 5000 ft gain and loss, 85% single-track, 4 aid stations.
  • 25K: new for 2026, climbs Burma Road and Gray Butte, 3300 ft gain.
  • Half Marathon: one full aid station, about 2500 ft climbing, 90% single-track.

Courses pass notable park features including the sheer rock faces at Smith Rock, Misery Ridge, and the Monkey Face. The 50K traverses most park trails and circles Gray Butte. The 25K includes an out-and-back to Gray Butte with a sustained climb and downhill on Burma Road. Surface mix is mostly single-track with some double track and dirt roads.

Logistics note that all participants must park off-site at DD Ranch with a free shuttle to the park. Nearest airports are Portland (PDX) and Redmond (RDM). A lodging partner in Redmond offers a discounted rate for the event. Pre- and post-race hospitality includes coffee, a burrito bar, and on-site beer options. All finishers receive a custom award. The event is held under a special use permit with federal and state land managers and benefits the Ridgeview High School cross-country team.
