Event
Run The Rock is a loop-style trail race held at Smith Rock State Park and the Crooked River National Grasslands near Bend, Oregon. The event takes place on November 7-8, 2026 and includes the following distances:
- 50K
- Half marathon
All participants receive a custom finish award. The race beneficiary is Ridgeview High School cross-country team.
Course and logistics
The 50K course uses most trails in the park, includes Misery Ridge and a loop around Gray Butte, and passes close to the Monkey Face rock formation. The 50K has approximately 5000 ft of ascent and 5000 ft of descent. About 85% of the 50K is on single-track trails and 15% on double-track and dirt roads. There are four fully stocked aid stations on the 50K.
The half marathon offers extensive single-track trail running, packs about 2500 ft of climbing into 13.1 miles, and has one full aid station. Approximately 90% of the half marathon is on single-track trails.
Due to limited parking at Smith Rock, all participants must park off-site at DD Ranch; a free shuttle will transport runners. Lodging options are listed in nearby towns; the event lists a lodging partner in Redmond about 15 minutes from the park. Post-race provisions include a burrito bar and beer offerings from Cascade Lakes Brewing and Athletic Brewing.
Veterans and active military are eligible for a 25% pre-registration discount when requested before registering. The event does not allow race transfers. Cancellations more than 30 days before the race may receive a 50% credit toward the same event the following year; cancellations 30 days or less receive no credit or refund. If the event is canceled and cannot be rescheduled, refunds or credits will not be given. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
