Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay

Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay takes place at Petal River Park in Petal, MS on November 7, 2026. The event uses a roughly 2.8 mile loop that moves from wide meadow lanes into single-track under a hardwood canopy and includes riverfront views, lagoons, wetlands, palmetto fields, and historic train trestles.

Participants may enter as individual ultra runners, relay teams of 2 to 4 members, or join a community friendly walk on a shorter loop. Individual ultra runners complete as many 2.8 mile loops as possible within a 6 hour window. Relay teams run one person on course at a time and exchange a baton only inside the designated exchange zone; only laps finished before the time cut off count toward standings. Divisions include male and female for individuals and male, female, and co-ed for teams.

The event follows a tailgate style format with personal team or family rest zones at the loop start and finish. There is no on course aid station because of the short loop, but cold refreshments will be available at the finish and loop start. Teams are encouraged to keep fuel at their tailgate site. Parking, drop off zones, and overnight camping are provided on site; camping is allowed without security. Timing is managed by Endurance Timing and results are based on completed laps with ties broken by total time. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
