Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay
Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay is a looped trail event at Petal River Park in Petal, MS held on November 7, 2026. The main format is a six hour solo ultra in which individuals complete as many roughly 2.8 mile loops as possible. Relay teams of two to four members take turns on course using a baton exchanged in a designated exchange zone. A new community friendly walk uses a shorter loop to allow broader participation.
The loop moves from wide meadow lanes into single-track beneath a hardwood canopy and passes riverfront views, lagoons, wetlands, palmetto fields, and historic train trestles. There is no on-course aid station because of the short loop, but cold refreshments are available at the finish and loop start area. Participants are expected to arrange personal fuel and gear at their tailgate or team area. Overnight camping is allowed on-site without security.
Divisions are Male and Female for individuals and Male Female Coed for teams. Timing is managed by Endurance Timing with individual bibs and a baton system for teams; final standings are based on completed laps with ties broken by total time. The event is hosted by the City of Petal Parks and Recreation and was first held in 2022. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
