Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay : Petal River Park
The Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay was held on November 1, 2025 at Petal River Park in Petal, Mississippi. The event used a looped trail course of roughly 2.7 miles that moves from wide meadow lanes into single-track beneath a hardwood canopy. The route passes riverfront views, lagoons, wetlands, palmetto fields, and includes crossings of historic train trestles.
Event formats included:
- 6 Hour Solo
- 6-hour relay
- Community Walk
Individual ultra entrants aimed to complete as many loops as possible within six hours. Relay teams of two to four members rotated runners, exchanging a baton only in the designated exchange zone. A new shorter walking course was offered for community participants. Divisions were Male and Female for individuals, and Male, Female, and Co-ed for teams.
The event followed a tailgate style. Participants and supporters set up personal rest zones and managed their own fuel; there was no on-course aid station due to the short loop. Cold refreshments were available at the loop start and finish area. Parking, gear drop-off zones, and first-come tailgate spots were provided on site, and overnight camping was allowed without on-site security. Runners and walkers were advised to bring appropriate hydration and trail gear and to watch for roots and uneven terrain. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
