About the race
Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay takes place on November 7, 2026 at Petal River Park in Petal, MS. The event offers three participation options: a 6 hour solo ultra, a 6 hour relay for teams, and a new community walk.
The course is a roughly 2.8-mile loop that moves between wide meadow lanes and single-track under a hardwood canopy. The loop passes riverfront views, lagoons, wetlands, palmetto fields, and historic train trestles within Petal River Park.
Participation formats are clear. Individual ultra runners complete as many loops as they can within 6 hours. Relay teams of two to four members run one person at a time and exchange a baton in the exchange zone; only laps finished before the event cut-off count. The community walk follows a shorter, more accessible loop.
Support and logistics are described for participants. There is no on-course aid station because of the short loop, but cold refreshments are available at the finish and loop start. Teams are encouraged to keep personal supplies at their tailgate area. Drop-off zones and tailgate spots are provided on race day; overnight camping is allowed on-site without security. Participants should be aware of roots and uneven terrain and bring appropriate hydration and trail gear.
Timing is provided by a professional timing company using bibs for individuals and a baton system for teams. Registered participants receive race swag if registered before the cut-off. The event is hosted by the City of Petal Parks & Recreation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
