Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay
Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay takes place on November 7, 2026, at Petal River Park in Petal, MS. The event offers a 6 hour solo option, a 6 hour relay for teams, and a new shorter community walk.
The course is a roughly 2.8 mile loop that moves from wide meadow lanes into single-track under a hardwood canopy. The route passes riverfront views, lagoons, wetlands, palmetto fields, and historic train trestles, allowing participants to repeat the same loop during the event.
Individual competitors aim to complete as many 2.8 mile loops as possible within six hours. Relay teams of two to four exchange a baton in a designated exchange zone; only laps finished before the cut-off count toward results. Divisions include male and female for individuals and male, female, and co-ed for teams.
The event has a tailgate-style format. There is no on-course aid station because of the short loop, but cold refreshments are provided at the finish and loop start. Teams and solo runners are encouraged to keep their own supplies at personal tailgate sites. Parking, drop-off, and first-come tailgate spots are available on site, and overnight camping is allowed without security.
Timing is handled by Endurance Timing; final standings are based on completed laps with ties broken by total time. The event is organized by the City of Petal Parks and Recreation and began in 2022. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
