About the race
The Run the River Spring Challenge is a sporting event held in Edmonton, Alberta. The race is staged at Louise McKinney Riverfront Park on Grierson Hill Northwest. All running routes utilize the river valley pathways, starting and finishing at the lower level of the park.
The event offers several distances for participants:
- 5 km (a direct out and back route)
- 10 km (consisting of two laps between turning points)
- Half marathon (consisting of three laps between turning points)
A specific early start option is available for half marathon participants who expect to take longer than 2.5 hours to complete the course. This measure is intended to ensure all runners finish their distance by early afternoon.
The program includes a junior event for children located in the grassy infield near the start and finish lines. This youth activity features stations for running, jumping, and throwing. An adult guardian must remain on-site during these activities.
Entry fees include a post-race BBQ provided by the River Valley Adventure Company. Additional beverages are available for purchase. Race package pick-up is organized on the Saturday preceding the event at Fast Trax (7326 101 Ave NW), where participants select a specific time window to collect their materials.
