The Run the Ridge Mary E. Smith Brain Tumor Awareness 5K is a fundraising event supporting brain tumor and cancer patients, scholarships, and research. It is the 17th annual edition of this event.

Location & Course

The event takes place in Chicago, Illinois, with the address at 39th Street and Oakwood Avenue. The outdoor walk or run is held "rain or shine" along the ridge of the Lake Front. Parking is available, with entry off East 39th Street at Oakwood Avenue.

Event Details

The event features a timed 5K run/walk. Registration includes chip timing, a t-shirt, and a finisher medal. Placement medals and team prizes are also awarded. The event agenda includes vendor booths, presentations, an honor and memory ceremony, and entertainment such as family-friendly music and a balloon release. Health and business vendors are present throughout.

Registration & Fees

The standard registration fee is $40. The price increases to $45 after April 1st and to $50 after June 1st. Onsite registration is available for $55. T-shirt sizes are guaranteed for registrations by June 1, 2026. Early registration by specific dates qualifies participants for special raffle prizes.

Fundraising

The event encourages participation by individual walkers or fundraising teams. A portion of the proceeds benefits the National Brain Tumor Society and MESF Scholars.
