Event Overview

Run of the Dead 2026 is a running event held on November 1 in Detroit, Michigan. It is a USATF-certified race and a fundraiser for the Center of Music & Performing Arts Southwest (COMPÁS), an organization that provides performing arts training and cultural experiences with a focus on youth development and preserving the Latinx heritage of Southwest Detroit.

The event is held in commemoration of the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) holiday. A community-created ofrenda (altar) will be displayed, and participants are invited to wear traditional face-paint, flowers, and attire. The event area will feature vendors, light bites, and entertainment by COMPAS.

Race Details

The event offers two certified race distances:

  • Run of the Dead 5k
  • Run of the Dead 10k

The race is chip-timed by Wolf Creek Race Management. Medal awards are given for 1st and 2nd place, as well as overall male and female winners, in both the 5k and 10k categories. On race day, 10k runners line up first, followed by 5k runners and then walkers.

Registration and Logistics

The event takes place at the Patton Park Recreation Center at 2301 Woodmere, Detroit. Early registration includes a guaranteed t-shirt, bib, and swag bag. Special registration coupons are available for high school students and first responders. Packet pickup is available on specified days before the race at the Southwest Detroit Business Association, with limited pickup available on race morning.
