About the race
The second annual Run Like the Windpipe Fundraiser is a community fundraiser hosted by the Eldoret Airway Surgery Program through the University of Alberta. The event is held at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park, Picnic Site #8, 13221 Buena Vista Rd NW, Edmonton, AB, Canada. It supports global surgical care partnerships that focus on education, surgical training, and improving access to specialized airway and reconstructive care worldwide.
The event offers multiple route options that follow river valley trails and park pathways. The course descriptions provided by the organizer note paved trails, river valley views, and sections past local landmarks such as the Equine Centre and Saskatchewan Drive for parts of the longer route.
Distances available:
- 10 km run on paved river valley trails with rolling terrain
- 5 km run along winding river valley pathways
- 5 km walk following the same scenic route as runners
- 1 km walk for children and participants seeking a short route
- Kids categories for ages 7–12 and for children 6 and under (with or without a t-shirt)
Participants receive event t-shirts and goodie bags and can expect coffee, snacks, and refreshments at the site. Race kit pickup is scheduled for Saturday, September 19 from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at 8537 - 109 Street, Edmonton, AB T6G 1E4. Day-of registration is available; t-shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed for registrations after September 5. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
