Run Forest Run at Lake Sylvia State Park

Run Forest Run is a trail event held at Lake Sylvia State Park near Montesano, Washington. Runners choose between two loop distances:

  • 25K
  • 50K

The 25K follows a single loop made up mostly of single and double track trail and gravel road with less than two miles of paved road. The 50K is completed by running the 25K loop twice. Much of the course runs through working forest land owned by the City of Montesano; other sections pass along the lake shoreline or through recently clearcut areas. Trail surfaces can be rough, rutted, and muddy in winter, with wet and dirty conditions likely.

Aid stations are placed on the loop and offer water plus common ultra snacks such as candy, cookies, chips, fruit, and gels. The event is cupless; runners should bring their own cup for water or electrolyte service. There is a cutoff policy that limits the time allowed to start a second loop and an overall cutoff for finishing, put in place for safety during short winter daylight hours.

Oly Trail Runners organizes the race as a nonprofit supporting local trail running and trail preservation. No day of registration is permitted inside the state park. A Washington State Discover Pass is required for vehicles parked in the park; park staff will check for a displayed pass and may issue a ticket if none is shown. Bibs are supplied by a local running store. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
