Event Details
The Run for the Ribbon 5K Run/Walk is an annual event organized by the Michigan Men's Health Foundation. It takes place on Father's Day and is located at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak, Michigan. The purpose of the event is to support prostate cancer survivors and their loved ones.
Distances
The event offers three participation options:
- 5K Run/Walk (Timed): A timed loop course.
- 1-Mile Stroll: A walk inside the zoo.
- Doze for Dads (Virtual Only): A non-participation option for support; virtual participants are not permitted to attend the in-person event day.
Participant Perks and Activities
All in-person participants receive a race shirt, a medal, and complimentary entry to the Detroit Zoo. Several on-site activities are available, including a free "In Celebration of" sign for the route (with a registration deadline), an "Honor and Remember Your Men's Health Hero Wall" for writing names on ribbons, and "In Celebration of" back bibs and colored beads. Prostate cancer survivors can collect a special gift at the organizer's tent.
Awards and Logistics
Awards are given for overall male and female winners, as well as male and female age group winners. Top fundraisers and the "most recent father" also receive special prizes. Age-based discounts are available for children. Parking is available in the Zoo parking structure and a surface lot. According to Zoo regulations, dogs are not allowed at the event.
