Event Details
The Run for the Animals 5K is a timed 5K run and walk taking place at Karst Farm Park in Bloomington, Indiana. It is the 31st annual edition of the event. All proceeds benefit the programs and services of the Monroe County Humane Association (MCHA). Each registration includes an official event t-shirt and sponsor swag.
Course and Format
The course starts at Karst Farm Park and loops through the Monroe County Fairgrounds. A new feature for 2026 is separate start times for runners and walkers. The awards ceremony and sponsor booths are located near the start/finish line.
Post-Race Activities
After the awards ceremony, there are raffles and pet contests. Participation in the raffle and pet contests is open to those not registered for the 5K.
Participation and Awards
Well-behaved canine friends are welcome to participate. Dogs must be up to date on rabies vaccinations, spayed or neutered, and kept on a standard, non-retractable leash at all times. Awards are given in many categories, including overall, age groups, and a top 3 canine category.
Beneficiary
The event supports MCHA, a private nonprofit that provides community programs such as a veterinary clinic, crisis housing, a pet food pantry, and spay/neuter assistance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
