Run for the Animals 5K : October 4, 2026
Run for the Animals is the 31st annual timed 5K event held at Karst Farm Park in Bloomington, Indiana. The in-person course begins at Karst Farm Park and loops through the Monroe County Fairgrounds. Awards and sponsor booths are located near the start and finish area. Packet pick-up is available the day before the race and on the morning of the event.

There are both an in-person 5K and a virtual 5K option. Registration opens January 1, 2026; the in-person registration period closes October 1, 2026 and the virtual registration closes October 4, 2026. Registration fees listed by the organizer are $30 for the in-person 5K and $25 for the virtual 5K. Each registration includes an official event t-shirt and sponsor swag. For safety, minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also registered and participating in the 5K.
Canine participation requirements follow state and organizer rules: dogs must have up to date rabies vaccinations, must be spayed or neutered, and must remain on standard non-retractable leashes at all times. Retractable leashes are not permitted.
Awards include top overall men and women, youth categories, age group awards for several age bands, and Top 3 Canine 5K placements. Proceeds benefit the Monroe County Humane Association and support its clinic, crisis housing, emergency pet food and supply pantry, spay and neuter assistance, street outreach, and other programs.
