Run For The 97 5K

Run For The 97 is a community legacy event held in Stanley Park, Liverpool. It commemorates the 97 people who died at Hillsborough on 15 April 1989 and remembers their families and survivors. The event includes both an in‑person and a virtual option so participants worldwide can take part.

Distances:

  • 5K course in Stanley Park and surrounding roads
  • 1 Mile community legacy fun run

The 5K course begins in the middle of Stanley Park, follows park pathways, exits at around 2 km and passes Goodison Park, Priory Road and Arkles Lane on the way to Anfield. Runners pass the Eternal Flame at Anfield, perform a U turn and return to Stanley Park for the finish. The event is scheduled for the final weekend of the Premier League season so the park is used on the Saturday.

Entries are limited to 2,500 participants. Age limits apply: the 5K is for ages 11 and up and the 1 Mile fun run is for ages 3 and up. Entry fees vary by distance and entry type, with separate fees for event and virtual participants and international virtual entries. Included items for the 5K listed by the organisers are a finisher goody bag, a finisher T shirt, and an exclusive medal. Since 2015 the event has raised more than £35,000 for local charities, with named charity partners supporting community outreach. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
