Event Overview
The RRRC Sweetheart 8K is an annual event organized by the Richmond Road Runners Club. For 2026, it has been selected as the RRCA National Championship for the "Other Distance" category. The event offers two participation options: an in-person race and a virtual event. Both events are part of the RRRC Grand Prix series for 2026.
Event Options
Participants can choose between two events:
- RRRC Sweetheart 8K: An in-person race on Sunday, February 15.
- Virtual Sweetheart 8K: A virtual event where participants can run or walk on their own schedule between Friday, February 13, and Monday, February 16.
Course Details
The in-person race features a 5-mile (8 km) course. The route travels through The Grove and Walton Park communities, historic Midlothian Coal Mine Park, and surrounding roads and trails. The race starts and finishes at the Urban Farmhouse at The Millworks in Midlothian, Virginia.
Registration and Inclusions
Registration is open to participants aged 5 and older. Fees are listed as $40 ($10 for ages 5-10), with a $5 discount for RRRC members. Registration includes chip timing for in-person participants, a race shirt (with size guaranteed if registered by February 1), post-race snacks and refreshments, and one raffle entry. Awards are given to top finishers in various categories.
Additional Activities
The event features a Couples Challenge. Teams of two can register together to be eligible for awards, including the top couple finisher and the best couple photo at the finish line. There is also a Team Costume Contest.
Rules and Policies
Event rules state that strollers, baby joggers, animals, bicycles, skates, and skateboards are not allowed. Headphones are discouraged for safety. All entry and processing fees are non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be deferred. Bib transfers are only permitted via an official waitlist after the race sells out.
