About the race
Royal Johannesburg - Urban Event #8 is a night orienteering event held at Royal Johannesburg Golf Club in Linksfield North, Johannesburg, Gauteng. Participants navigate with a map and torch across the golf course after dark; headlamps and maps are used to find a series of controls. The event offers individual and team options and multiple course choices to match experience and distance.
There are three courses:
- Men's course: 4 km (aimed at experienced orienteers)
- Women's course: 3.6 km (aimed at experienced orienteers)
- Explorer course: 2.5 km (aimed at novices)
The courses run over undulating, tree-lined fairways. A stream runs along the northern part of the area and has several crossing points that affect route choice. Team entries are supported for certain classes, with team sizes ranging from 2 to 4 participants. Some classes include SI timing device hire as part of the entry.
Entry prices start at R170 for club members in several classes; non-club member fees are listed up to R200 for individual entries and higher for group entries.
