ROO Last Man Standing

ROO Last Man Standing is a backyard ultra held on nearly 2,000 acres of private land at Ponderosa Ranch in Clancy, Montana. The event starts and finishes at the Dutchman Creek Events Center and sits at the edge of the Elkhorn Mountains, offering a mix of open ranchland and trail views.

The format follows the classic Last Man Standing backyard ultra. Every hour runners start a 4.2 mile loop. Runners must complete the loop within the hour to earn the right to start the next one. If a runner misses the start or misses the hourly cutoff they are out. The race continues until only one runner remains and that final runner must complete one last loop alone. There is no set race distance and no overall time limit.

The course runs entirely on private ranch property and combines ranch roads with trail terrain. Each loop returns to a central race hub where runners can rest and refuel. Runners may have up to four crew members and a designated crew area for small tents, chairs, coolers, and personal support stations. While some race supplies may be available, runners are responsible for bringing sufficient food, hydration, and gear for the duration of the event.

The event emphasizes pacing, endurance, and crew planning as much as distance covered loop by loop. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
