Tropical Themed Running Event in Fort Worth
The Big Kahuna is a summer running event organized by Bigfoot Running Company, held at the River Side Trail Head in Fort Worth, Texas. The event features a tropical luau theme where participants can experience island-inspired music and decorations throughout the course. The routes consist of various terrains, including pavement, crushed granite, and dirt paths through public park and greenbelt areas.
The race offers multiple distances to accommodate different participation levels:
- 10 km (6.22 miles) - A chip-timed race with overall and age group awards.
- 5 km (3.11 miles) - A chip-timed race with overall and age group awards.
- 1 Mile - A casual distance that is not chip-timed.
- Kids Dash - A 50-meter run for children aged 10 and under.
- Virtual Run - Options for remote participation.
Participants in the 1 Mile, 5 km, and 10 km events receive a race shirt and a finisher medal. Those in the 5 km and 10 km categories are eligible for awards across standard age groups, ranging from 10 and under to 70 and above, with special trophies for overall and masters winners. The event includes hydration stations along the course and a tropical treat for participants at the finish line.
A unique "Volunteer then Run" option is available for the 5 km distance. This allows a limited number of participants to assist with pre-race tasks such as packet pickup before joining the starting group to run their timed race. General event amenities include a themed photo backdrop and packet pickup starting 90 minutes before the first race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
