Event Overview
The Big Kahuna is a tropical-themed race hosted by Bigfoot Running Company. It takes place at the River Side Trail Head in Fort Worth. The event includes several distances and is designed as a family-friendly morning run with a luau atmosphere.
Distances
The event offers multiple race distances:
- Kids Dash for participants 10 and under
- 1 Mile Run
- 5k Run
- 10k Run
- A Volunteer then Run 5K option (limited to 10 participants)
- A Virtual Run
Participant Experience
All participants in the Kids Dash, 1 Mile, 5K, and 10K receive a race tee and a finisher medal. Leis are handed out at the race. There is music at the start and finish line. A post-race tropical treat is provided for every runner, and there is a tropical-themed photo backdrop. Aid stations are located along the course.
The 5K and 10K events are chip-timed and offer awards. Awards are given for 1st overall male and female, 1st masters (40+), and standard age group placements.
Course and Venue
The course terrain is described as a mix of pavement, crushed granite, and some unavoidable dirt paths. The event takes place in public parks and greenbelts.
Registration Details
Youth pricing is available for ages 12 and under. There are referral rewards and group discounts. A shirt is guaranteed if participants register at least 10 days before race day. Packet pickup opens 1.5 hours before the race start.
Volunteer Opportunities
There are two main volunteer options. The "Volunteer Then Run" option is only for the 5K distance and allows volunteers to run after helping with packet pickup. "Full Race Volunteer" roles are also available, with volunteers receiving a race shirt, VIP access, and a choice of a free future race entry or a gift card.
