The Rodeo Run at Huntington Beach
Held at Huntington State Beach, the Rodeo Run is a Western-themed athletic event that takes place on a flat, paved running path along the coast. The course provides views of the beach and surf, remaining open to the public including cyclists and pedestrians during the event. Participants can choose from several distances:
- 10K Run/Walk (6.2 miles)
- 5K Run/Walk (3.1 miles)
- 1 Mile Kid's Fun Run
- Little Cowpoke Dash (200 and 400 yards)
The event features various Western-themed activities and amenities. Attendees can participate in line dancing warm-ups with instructors, visit a roping station, and listen to Western music. The experience also includes the presence of live horses. Participants receive a Western-themed event shirt, a running bib, and a custom cast finisher medal designed to function as a belt buckle.
Registration is available in advance or on the morning of the event. The race is RFID chip-timed, and awards are presented to the top three finishers overall as well as the top three in five-year age increments ranging from age 1 to over 85. Strollers and dogs on leashes are permitted on the course. Parking is available within the State Park for a fee, with alternative metered parking nearby. The event proceeds support organizations focused on equine experiences for veterans and outdoor programs for children. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
