Rocky Neck Runfest
The Rocky Neck Runfest takes place at Rocky Neck State Park, featuring a variety of courses that showcase the natural scenery of the Connecticut shoreline. Participants navigate paths through the Bride Brook salt marsh, the historic stone Ellie Mitchell Pavilion, and the Four Mile River tidal area. The event offers multiple formats utilizing both paved roads and natural trails.
Participants can choose from several distance options:
- 30K Solo: A six-leg individual race consisting of alternating road and trail rotations totaling approximately 18.6 miles.
- 3-Person Relay: A team event where each member completes one 5K road segment and one 5K trail segment.
- Road 5K: A course focused on the roads in and around the campground area.
- Trail 5K: A nature-based route that serves as part of the USATF-CT Mountain, Ultra, and Trail race series.
The event features a central exchange zone designed for spectators and participants to gather. All races conclude with a finish line overlooking Long Island Sound. Registered runners receive a technical shirt and a custom finisher medal. The post-race activities include live music and food provided by a local fish market. This event is also part of a multi-race series that includes events in Mystic and New London.
Proceeds from the event support the Susie Beris, MD Youth Running Program. The road segments primarily utilize the park's internal infrastructure, while the trail segments provide a more technical running environment. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
