26th Annual River City Rat Race
The River City Rat Race returns for its 26th year in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This event features two main distances that take participants through downtown parks and alongside the riverfront during the autumn season. The courses utilize a returning layout that begins at 300 E Main St and concludes at the Old Fort.
The available distances for participants include:
- 10k Run/Walk: A Fort Wayne Run Club points race that follows the riverfront paths.
- 5k Run/Walk: A shorter alternative covering the downtown park areas.
The event serves as a benefit for the Great Fort Wayne Central YMCA. Participants receive a race t-shirt and a finisher medal upon completing their respective distance. The 10k distance is designated as a Fort Wayne Run Club points race, and the event carries USATF sanctioning.
Awards are presented to the top three overall Masters male and female finishers in both the 5k and 10k categories. Additionally, the top runner in various age groups is recognized, with categories ranging from 1-14 years old up to 80-99 years old. Packet pick-up is organized at the Central Branch YMCA on the day before the event and at Freimann Square on the day of the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
