RISING SUN RUN
The 14th Annual RISING SUN RUN takes place on the high desert plain of southeast Arizona. Located in Sierra Vista, the event features courses set against the backdrop of the Huachuca mountains, starting at an elevation of 4,500 feet. The routes lead participants through country neighborhoods, with the longer course reaching an elevation of 5,500 feet at the entrance to the Ramsey Canyon Preserve. Both professional courses are USA Track & Field certified.
Participants can choose from several distance options:
- 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon)
- 3.1 Miles (5K)
- 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk
The half marathon course includes a significant elevation change and offers vistas of the San Pedro River valley on the return leg. The event uses chip timing, and participants have a 3-hour time limit to complete the half marathon distance. Five first aid and water stations are positioned along the half marathon route, which also features portable toilet facilities at race headquarters and the midway point. The 5K course includes one water and first aid station at the turnaround point.
Finishers receive recovery snacks, drinks, and a race day swag bag. All half marathon finishers are awarded a commemorative spinner medal, while 5K participants receive a ribbon. Cash prizes are provided for the top three overall male and female finishers in the half marathon. Medals are also awarded to the top three male and female participants in seven different age categories ranging from 16 and below to 66 and above.
Proceeds from the event support local vocational scholarships, youth leadership development, and various non-profit service projects. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
