The Richmond Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving morning running event held at William Byrd Park with start/finish near Shields Lake Drive off Shirley Lane. The event features chip-timed competition and family-friendly options on a course laid out entirely on paved streets. The 5K has a course time limit of 1 hour 30 minutes.
Race-day offerings and logistics include:
- 100 m Kid’s Dash
- 5K and Kid’s Division 5K Fun Run
- Packet pickup available before the event and on race morning; mailed packet options are limited and may incur fees
- All water stations supply water; there is no gear check on site
- Headphones are permitted but not recommended
- Strollers allowed for walkers and joggers only; dogs are not permitted
- All participants must sign an online waiver
Finish-line and participant amenities include Rise Donuts at the finish and commemorative event gear with a runner’s choice of a long-sleeve shirt or a premium fleece pullover. Results from this local event are included in the nationwide Thankful Turkey Run/Walk national leaderboard. Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group and overall for the chip-timed 5K. Event records noted for the 5K are 14:57 for males and 16:37 for females.
