City of Pittsburgh Great Race
The annual City of Pittsburgh Great Race takes place over the weekend of September 25-26, 2027. The event began in 1977 as a community fun run and has drawn nearly half a million participants since its start, making it the largest 10K race in Pennsylvania.
The weekend includes multiple race options, youth events, and related activities:
- 10K (the event's primary distance and the largest 10K in Pennsylvania)
- 5K run/walk
- Junior events: Family Fun Run, Tot Trot, Diaper Dash
Additional weekend components include a running clinic and the Great Race Expo. The Dollar Bank Junior Great Race provides children with a shirt and medal for participating.
The event supports medical research through donations: each Great Race and Junior Great Race registration contributes one dollar to an amyloidosis fund held by the Pittsburgh Foundation.
