Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon 2026
The Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon is the largest running event in Iceland. It takes place in August and features a variety of distances to accommodate different participants. The available distances include:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 10 km
- Fun Run
Participants can choose between a general ticket and a competition ticket. The competition ticket allows runners to compete for prizes, with results certified by the Icelandic Athletic Federation (FRÍ). These certified times can be used for registration in competitive international races. The general ticket provides a non-competitive option where results are not certified by the federation.
The course is certified according to AIMS measurement standards. All participants receive a race number, a timing chip, on-course services, and a medal upon crossing the finish line. Additionally, runners with either ticket type receive one free admission to the geothermal baths and pools in Reykjavik on the day of the race or the following day.
The event provides pacers for participants. A strict timing limit is enforced, and timing services stop in the mid-afternoon. To ensure accurate results and fair play, runners must start in their assigned heats. Bag storage and an information center are available on-site for all participants.
