Reservoir Ramble
Reservoir Ramble is a family centered adventure race held at Prairie Creek Reservoir in Muncie, Indiana on September 20, 2026. The event combines mountain biking, canoeing, and hiking with navigation using only a map and compass; GPS devices are not allowed.
Teams search for orange and white flags placed throughout the area and record found checkpoints by punching a card. Checkpoints are optional and there are no required minimum distances, so teams choose which checkpoints to attempt. Biking has been made optional to increase accessibility, and bikes are accessed by canoe during the race. Once a canoe is returned to the starting beach, reentry to the water is not permitted.
Canoe rental is included with race entries. Registration has a listed fee of $100 and racers must also pay a daily USARA membership fee for this sanctioned event. Kids 17 and under may race free.
Race rules emphasize team proximity and safety, including staying within seeing or shouting distance of teammates, riding bikes only on designated roads noted on the map, following pedestrian and bicycle laws, and practicing Leave No Trace principles. The event includes puzzle style mystery challenges and physical team tasks in addition to navigation and paddling. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
