Red's Backyard Ultra
Red's Backyard Ultra is a last-one-standing endurance event held at a New South Wales State Cross Country course in Kembla Grange, located approximately 1.5 hours south of Sydney. The venue features trail and cross country surfaces with an elevation gain of 35 feet per loop. Participants and their crews have access to a dedicated area for personal aid stations, as well as clubhouse canteen and bathroom facilities.
The competition follows a satellite format where participants must complete a loop of 6.7056 km (4.167 miles) every hour on the hour. The remaining time in each hour is used for recovery. The event continues until only one runner is able to complete a loop within the time limit. All other participants are recorded as DNF (Did Not Finish). The 2026 edition serves as a Silver Ticket event, meaning the winner earns a place on the Australian Team, provided they complete a minimum of 24 loops.
Red's Backyard Ultra is also hosting the Australian Team for the 2026 Backyard Ultra World Team Championships. The event has a participant capacity of 130 runners. The current record for this specific course stands at 57 loops.
