Red’s Backyard Ultra
Red’s Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra event held at a New South Wales state cross country course in Kembla Grange, about 1.5 hours south of Sydney. The course uses a trail and cross country surface with about 35 feet of climb per loop. Participants run the same loop for the entire event.
The event is run as a last-one-standing format. Competitors must complete a loop of 6.7056 km every hour on the hour. Each hour that a runner completes a loop allows them to continue; the event continues until only one runner remains. All other participants are recorded as DNF.
Facilities at the venue include a dedicated area for runners and crew to set up a personal aid station, plus access to a clubhouse canteen and bathroom facilities. The race has a participant capacity of 130.
The event is classified as a Silver Ticket race. The winner is guaranteed a place on the Australian Team provided the winner completes a minimum of 24 loops. The event date is 1 August 2026. A race manual for 2026 will be made available prior to registration. The current record for completed loops at this event is 57 loops.
