Event overview

Red’s Backyard Ultra is a last-one-standing ultramarathon held on a NSW State Cross Country course in Kembla Grange, about 1.5 hours south of Sydney. The 2026 edition is listed as a silver ticket event and the race will host the Australian Team at the 2026 Backyard Ultra World Team Championships. The event has a stated participant capacity of 99.

Format and course

Runners complete the same loop each hour until only one runner remains; all other participants are recorded as a DNF. Each loop is 6.7056 km and the backyard ultra format requires competitors to complete the loop distance within the hour to continue. The course surface is a trail and cross country course with 35 feet of climb per loop.

Entries, records and facilities

Runners and crew are allocated a dedicated area for a personal aid station. Clubhouse canteen and bathroom facilities are available at the venue.
