Red Squirrel 10k Trail Race
The Red Squirrel 10k takes place on 19 April 2026 at the Ainsdale Sand Dunes within the Ainsdale National Nature Reserve. The event is organised by Southport Strollers Running Club in association with Natural England and is based at the primary schools Shoreside and Merefield on Westminster Drive, Southport PR8 2QZ.
This is a trail race covering a distance of 10 km. The route follows wooded paths through the reserve and finishes with an ascent of the reserve's highest dune peak. The course runs across sand dune habitat managed by Natural England.
The reserve supports a range of flora and fauna. Species mentioned for the area include newts, toads, sand lizards, moths, and deer, and participants may also spot a red squirrel. Natural England is responsible for managing the habitat and its conservation aims for the site.
All money raised, after event costs are covered, will be donated to the Southport Stronger Together charity.
