Rebecca Mountain 50 Mile : Sylacauga, AL
The event is a trail race weekend featuring three distances:
- 50 Miler
- 50K
- 25K
The 50 Miler is a point-to-point route on the Pinhoti Trail from Hwy 77 (Porter’s Gap) to Sylaward Trail (Lake Howard). Its route includes about 31 miles of single-track Pinhoti Trail across Horn Mountain, roughly six miles of forest service roads, and about 12 miles on Sylaward Trails. Total elevation gain for the 50 Miler is approximately 5,171 feet. The 50K follows the same corridor for about the first 19 miles, then continues on forest service roads before joining Sylaward Trails for the final miles to Lake Howard.
Time limits are specified for each distance: the 50 Miler has a 16-hour limit and the 50K has a 10-hour limit. Aid stations are placed along the courses with named locations and approximate mileages; both distances have multiple staffed aid stops and a finish-area aid station. Restrooms are available at the start area and the finish at Lake Howard.
Packet pickup is scheduled the Friday before the race at Lake Howard. Bus transportation from Lake Howard to the start is available for a fee. Parking at the start area is limited and parking attendants will assist. Camping is offered at Lake Howard with a small donation requested; bathroom facilities are available but no showers.
