Rattlerock Ultra
Rattlerock Ultra is a trail running event held in Coopers Rock State Forest near Morgantown, West Virginia. The event offers two distances and takes place on a repeated loop course that runs through forest, streams, meadows, rock formations, and a reservoir.
- 50k - four repeats of a 7.9+ mile loop
- 25k - two repeats of a 7.9+ mile loop
The 50k includes almost 6,000 feet of elevation gain. The course is rocky and technical, especially in the first mile, and includes boulders, steep climbs and descents, wooden footbridges over streams, rooty sections, and a fast flat mile leading to each loop finish. Course names include Rattlesnake Trail, Ridge Trail, Mt. Chateau, Rhododendron Trail, Wall, Clay Run, Powerline, and Roadside Trail.
Logistics note that the course will be carefully marked and checked before the race. Aid stations are provided - eight for the 50k and four for the 25k - and runners may use drop bags that are accessible four times. Parking is free. The event does not support pacers or same-day distance switching; crews may be at the start and Rhododendron Trail aid station. Packet pickup is scheduled for Friday evening. Awards include event running hats for the top three male and top three female finishers. Post race food is pizza. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
