Event overview
Rattlerock Ultra is a trail running event near Morgantown, West Virginia, held in Coopers Rock State Forest on July 25, 2026. The race offers two distances:
- 50k
- 25k
The 50k is a high-gain course with almost 6,000 feet of elevation gain. The event is organized by Death to Tyrants Trail Running.
Course and logistics
The course uses a roughly 7.9-mile loop. The 50k repeats the loop four times; the 25k repeats it two times. Trails are described as rocky and technical, with boulders, steep climbs and descents, wooded tunnel sections of rhododendron, streams and wooden bridges, meadows, a reservoir, and mossy boulder features. The course includes several named segments such as Rattlesnake Trail, Ridge Trail, Mt. Chateau, Rhododendron Trail, and Clay Run.
There are 8 aid stations for the 50k and 4 for the 25k. The event uses a 9.5-hour cutoff. Parking is free. Pacers and distance-switching are not supported; crews may remain in the start/finish area. Camping can be reserved inside Coopers Rock State Park and nearby hotels are available about 10-20 minutes from the start. Post-race food includes pizza.
