Rat Race 5K
The Rat Race is a memorial running event held at Green Forest School in Green Forest, Arkansas. It honors a US Navy SEAL from Green Forest and remembers the 31 service members lost on 8-6-2011 during Extortion 17. The event serves as a fundraiser for a nonprofit organization.
Distances and formats offered:
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- 1 Mile Bart's Dog Jog
- Virtual 5K (T-shirt mailed)
In-person registration opens 12/23/2025 and closes 5/19/2026; the standard entry fee is $30. Virtual registration opens 12/23/2025 and closes 6/4/2026; the virtual entry fee is $35 and includes a mailed T-shirt. Teams of four or more receive a $10 discount on registration.
Runners must check in before the race and there is an opening ceremony prior to the start. Awards are given to the top three male and top three female finishers. Certificates are provided for the following age groups: 1-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and up.
Proceeds benefit the Ratzlaff Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Good Grief programs in area schools. The event is a fundraiser for a nonprofit organization; no refunds are given for cancellations due to weather. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
