Event Overview

The Ranger Ultras PB137km Trail Challenge is a multi-day trail running event along the Pennine Bridleway National Trail. The total route distance is 137 km, with a total ascent of 3275 metres, to be completed within a 50-hour time limit. The event takes place from Thursday 16th to Saturday 18th April 2026.

Course Details

The route is a mixture of fast trails and technical ascents, traveling through West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire moors, and finishing in Cumbria. Navigation is supported by course notes, a GPX file provided to entrants, and the existing waymarking of the Pennine Bridleway. The course uses established trails and rights of way, with some sections using defined walkers' alternatives to avoid roads.

Event Services

The event includes several services for participants:

  • Bunkroom accommodation on the pre-race registration evening.
  • An indoor midway checkpoint with hot meals, showers, and sleeping space.
  • Access to a personal drop bag at the midway checkpoint and the finish.
  • A finish venue hostel with beds, showers, relaxation space, refreshments, and a home-cooked celebratory meal.
  • Safety team support at the headquarters and at regular intervals on the course, including water locations.

Schedule & Logistics

Race registration, kit check, and tracker issue occur on Wednesday evening, 15th April, at Hebden Hey Scout Centre in Hebden Bridge. The race starts at 0800 on Thursday 16th April from the same location. The finish is at Kirkby Stephen Hostel in Cumbria, with a 1000 cut-off on Saturday 18th April. The midway checkpoint is in Settle, approximately 68 km into the route. Participants have a maximum of 8 hours to rest at this checkpoint.

Additional Information

The entry fee is £223 for affiliated runners and £225 for unaffiliated runners. Participants must be 20 years or older on the event date. Entry is limited to a maximum of 20 participants. All finishers receive an eco-medal, and trophies are awarded for the first male and female finishers, as well as for the fastest male and female in the 20-49 and over-50 age categories.
