Course, checkpoints and logistics
The route follows the Pennine Bridleway and passes through West Yorkshire and the North Yorkshire moors, finishing in Cumbria. The course is run on established trails and rights of way; some sections use defined walkers’ alternatives to avoid roads. The route is generally well waymarked and GPX files and navigation notes are provided to all entrants. The challenge is split into two legs of about 68 km each, with ascent figures of 1,681 m for the first leg (Hebden Bridge to Settle) and 1,594 m for the second leg (Settle to Kirkby Stephen). Indoor facilities are provided at registration, the midway checkpoint and the finish, including hot meals, showers and sleeping space. Participants may access drop bags at the midway checkpoint and at the finish. A Ranger Safety Team provides support at checkpoints and on-course water locations. Race registration and kit check take place on the evening before the start at Hebden Hey Scout Centre, Hardcastle Craggs, Hebden Bridge.
