Rainier to Ruston Relay
The Rainier to Ruston Relay is a team relay race covering 50 miles on June 6, 2026. Teams of 2, 3, 4, or 6 runners share the distance, with each runner completing multiple relay segments. Teams may add members after initial registration.
The route begins near Mount Rainier and follows the Foothills Trail, a historic rail-trail corridor. The course is divided into 12 scenic, mostly downhill legs that connect communities across Pierce County and end at Tacoma’s Ruston Way waterfront.
The event includes a finish festival on Ruston Way with a craft beer garden, food, music, vendors, and team photos. Participants receive event items such as a custom shirt, a medal, and a buff. Some teams can earn special awards, including a railroad spike and a Sand Leg medal for the Puyallup sand section.
Rainier to Ruston also functions as a fundraiser for the Foothills Rails-to-Trails Coalition. Proceeds support trail completion, maintenance, and public access to create a longer, connected pathway between Mount Rainier and Puget Sound. The event uses volunteers and community partnerships to support trail stewardship and local trail work. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
