Race the Wolf
Race the Wolf is a two day mountain trail event at Schweitzer Mountain Resort in Sandpoint, Idaho, held June 19-20, 2027. The event offers multiple distances across the weekend and uses well marked courses through subalpine forest and along ridge tops, with views extending to Canada and Montana.
Distances include:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- Trail 5 miler
- Sky Climb
Course surfaces vary by distance and include rocky two-track access roads, singletrack trails with sections of smooth dirt and banked turns, and off trail uphill climbs on a slightly defined route for the Sky Climb. The courses provide multiple aid stations and restroom availability on course. All distances start and end near the clock tower in Schweitzer Village. Packet pickup and day of registration take place near the start area and details are provided to registrants. All athletes must sign the event waiver and read the final instructions.
The races are held rain or shine; participants are responsible for their wellbeing under possible weather changes. Wildlife is present on the mountain, including moose and black bears, and quieter stretches of trail may require runners to make noise to alert animals. Parking is in the Gateway Lot a short walk from the start finish area. Post race lunch and beverages are provided for Marathon and Half Marathon competitors on Sunday. Completing two races over the weekend qualifies for an Alpha Wolf award. 2027 registration opens October 1, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
