5k Race for Plates (StockTheSummer.ca)
The event is a 5k run along the Whitby Heydenshore waterfront trail at Kiwanis Heydenshore Park, 589 Water St, Whitby, ON, on August 1, 2026. The course is described as fast and flat. Timing is provided by Speed River Timing. Free race photos are included and a finisher medal is awarded.
The event includes a food collection component. Participants are asked to bring non perishable food items to support local food banks. The 2025 collection equated to 567 meals. Donations also help keep the event affordable and accessible.
Prizes are offered through a partnership with Sunset Grill in the form of $100, $50 and $25 gift cards for male and female podium finishers. A children's category debuts for those 12 and under with separate boys and girls divisions and prizes. A 30 percent age discount applies to children 12 and under.
Race kits and bibs must be picked up before lining up at the start. Free parking is available. The event proceeds rain or shine and is cancelled only in extreme conditions. Sponsors include Sunset Grill, BioSteel Sports, Gutsy Kombucha and Sun River Honey. A Strava community is maintained for participants and local runners.
