5k Race for Plates (StockTheSummer.ca)
The event takes place on August 1, 2026 at Kiwanis Heydenshore Park, 589 Water St, Whitby, ON. It is a community fundraising run featuring a scenic 5k along the Whitby Heydenshore waterfront trail. The course is described as fast and flat and the race is professionally timed by Speed River Timing. Free race photos are included and finishers receive a medal.
Participants are asked to bring non-perishable food items to support local food banks. The 2025 collection equated to 567 meals. Donations also help keep entry fees affordable and accessible.
Prizes include $100, $50 and $25 gift cards for male and female podium finishers provided by Sunset Grill. A children's category for ages 12 and under is introduced with separate boys and girls divisions and a prize for winners. A 30% age discount applies for children 12 and under.
Logistics: race kits and bibs must be picked up before lining up. Free parking is available. The race takes place rain or shine and will only be cancelled in extreme conditions. Sponsors provide on-site items such as a free pancake from Sunset Grill, energy gels from Sun River Honey, kombucha from Gutsy Drinks and sugar-free sports drinks from BioSteel.
