16th Annual Race Against Poverty

The Race Against Poverty is a community athletic event held in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, focused on supporting South Central Community Action Programs (SCCAP). The event offers several participation options for runners and walkers of different ages and abilities.

The event features the following distances:

  • 5K Run/Walk
  • Raber Kids 1 Mile Run
  • Raber Kids Dash (1/2 mile)

Participants in the 5K can register as individuals, part of a "Running Duo" co-ed pair, or as a member of a "Team Challenge" consisting of five or more people. All participants in the 5K event are timed. The youth events are restricted to children aged 11 and under.

The venue at 533 S. Main St. hosts a variety of activities alongside the races. Attendees can visit retail and food vendors, browse information tables, and listen to live music. The organizers provide an award ceremony following the races, where medals are presented to the top three male and female finishers in various age brackets, ranging from 12 and under to 80 and over. Cash awards are also available for the overall top three male and female finishers in the 5K.

Fundraising is a primary component of the event, with specific rewards and trophies for top individual and team fundraisers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
