Quatina M. Wolaver Poker Run
The event is an annual fundraising poker run held at Old Town, 80 Quick School Road, Fayetteville, Tennessee, on the last Sunday in September. It supports a foundation that raises awareness and funding for ovarian cancer research; the organizer notes that Pap tests do not screen for ovarian cancer.
Runners complete as many 1/2 mile loops on a closed gravel course as they wish during a one hour effort. For each lap completed, a volunteer places a playing card in an envelope. Participants must complete five loops (a minimum of 2.5 miles) within the hour in order to play poker.
The event is cupless: organizers provide water coolers and participants bring and refill their own vessels. Packet pickup is required on race day during the scheduled pickup window. There is a t-shirt registration cutoff prior to the event.
Registration has a fee of $40. Participants who agree to raise or donate a minimum of $100 during registration will have the $40 refunded at checkout if they meet the $100 minimum; if they do not meet the agreed $100 minimum, the refunded $40 will be charged.
There are 20 total prizes awarded across male and female categories for most laps, top three poker hands, and fastest lap, each separated into 17 and under and 18 and over divisions. Dogs and strollers are not permitted on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
