PSRR Free 5K Run/Walk
The PSRR Free 5K Run/Walk is a no-fee community 5K running and walking event held on August 1, 2026, on a course that winds through Hammel Woods Forest Preserve in Shorewood, Illinois. The event will be professionally timed and results will be posted online in overall and age group formats.
The course begins near the hidden shelter in the preserve with the primary entrance at Route 59 and Brook Forest Road (554 Brook Forest Road). Course marshals will be placed to guide participants. Mile markers and one staffed water table are provided on the course. Strollers and leashed pets are permitted; rollerblades and skateboards are not allowed.
There are two entrances to Hammel Woods. Parking at the Route 59 lot is limited and additional parking is available at other preserve parking areas. Organizers note that cash will be accepted for raffle tickets and donations after the event. Water and sports drinks will be provided after the race, and participants may bring their own beverages to share.
Each year the Free 5K benefits a local school. This year the beneficiary is Rockdale School in Rockdale, Illinois. The event requests donations of new school supplies and states that money raised will go to the Rockdale Rams sports programs.
