Prairie Nightmare Backyard Ultra
The event takes place at Echo Valley Provincial Park, Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, on a gentle trail loop of 6.706 km. It uses the Backyard Ultra format, Last Person Standing: runners complete the loop within an hourly time limit, and laps repeat as long as at least one runner finishes the distance in the allotted time. The final runner to complete a lap is the winner; others record a DNF if they concede or fail to finish a lap on time.
Runners must be at the start line and begin each lap when the start whistle sounds; failure to do so results in a DNF. A Prairie Daydream option provides an introduction to Backyard-style events and trail running using the same 6.706 km loop. Daydream participants may run between one and five consecutive loops without obligation to continue. If a participant wants to continue past five loops they must inform the onsite RD; continuation depends on the stage of the race.
Each runner has a designated area for gear and crew. Camping is available for the race weekend and participants may set up the night before; no pre-check-in with the park is required. There is a day-of charge for trailer use and a smaller day-of charge for tent or car camping. This is a cupless race: participants must bring refillable bottle(s) or cups and supply their own food and drink for the duration of the event. Park water is drinkable.
