Prairie Chaos Backyard Ultra
Prairie Chaos Backyard Ultra is scheduled for August 15, 2026 at Little Mountain Park, Farmer Road, Winnipeg, MB. It is an official Backyard Ultra where laps repeat until a single runner remains.
Each loop is 6.7056 km (about 4.167 miles) on trail through open prairie and shaded forest. The course includes roots, rocks, and some rolling terrain, and passes near an indoor lodge that contains four flushing toilets, sinks, and a small sheltered area with a water fountain. Portable toilets will be staged near the start/finish area.
The event format gives runners one hour to complete each loop. Starts occur exactly one hour apart and whistle warnings are given 3, 2, and 1 minute before the bell; a runner who does not reach the bell is eliminated. Additional rules include no non-competitors on course, no personal aid during a loop except restroom breaks, no artificial aids including trekking poles, and slower runners must yield to passes.
Each participant has an individual space by the start/finish for a personal station or crew setup. An aid station will provide water, an electrolyte drink, sweet and salty snacks, and some warm food overnight; supplies are limited so participants are encouraged to be self-sufficient.
All entrants receive a bib, a race shirt, a Buff, and a "Did Not Finish" medal. The sole winner will receive a distinctive prize. Participants are entered in the At Large category for Big's Backyard Ultra. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
