Prairie Chaos is a Backyard Ultra held at Little Mountain Park in Winnipeg on August 15, 2026. The official loop measures 6.7056 kilometers and must be completed in less than one hour for a runner to start the next loop.
The course passes through open prairie and shaded forest with sections of roots, rocks, and some rolling terrain. The route goes by an indoor lodge near the start/finish area that includes four flushing toilets, sinks, and a small sheltered area with a water fountain. Portable toilets will also be staged close to the start/finish area.
Each participant receives a bib, a pair of race socks, a race Buff, and a "Did Not Finish" medal. The sole winner will receive a distinctive prize. Participants are assigned personal spaces by the start/finish for crew and gear.
An aid station will provide water, an electrolyte drink, sweet and salty snacks, and some warm food overnight. Supplies will be limited and participants are encouraged to be self-sufficient with their preferred hydration and nutrition.
Key Backyard Ultra rules: each loop starts one hour after the previous; whistle warnings are given before the bell; all competitors must start with the bell; no personal aid on the loop; restroom breaks are the only exception to leaving the course; no artificial aids or trekking poles; slower runners must yield to passes.
