Event overview
Prairie Chaos Backyard Ultra takes place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Little Mountain Park, Farmer Road, Winnipeg, MB. The event is an official Backyard Ultra and participants will be entered in the "At Large" category for Big's Backyard Ultra. The course is a loop of 6.7056 km (4.167 miles) on trail that passes through open prairie and shaded forest with roots, rocks, and rolling sections. Participants receive a bib, a pair of race socks, a race buff, and a "Did Not Finish" medal; the sole winner receives a distinctive prize.
Format, rules and facilities
Each loop must be completed within one hour to count; the race continues in hourly loops until only one runner remains. Competitors must be inside the starting corral at the bell and start each loop when the bell sounds. Restroom breaks are allowed but competitors may not leave the course otherwise; no personal aid is permitted during a yard and no artificial aids such as trekking poles are allowed. An aid station will offer water, an electrolyte drink, sweet and salty snacks, and some warm food overnight, but participants are encouraged to be self-sufficient. Parking near the start area includes about 40 spaces, plus additional parking off Klimpke Road and along Farmer Road. An indoor lodge near the start/finish has four flushing toilets and a small sheltered area; portable toilets will also be available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
