Platter's Chocolate Factory Sponge Candy 5K & 1 Mile Fun Walk
Platter's Chocolate Factory presents a community running event on September 19, 2026 in North Tonawanda, New York, centered at the Wurlitzer Building (908 Niagara Falls Blvd). The event offers two course options:
- 1 Mile Fun Walk
- 5K Run for Sponge
All participants receive sponge candy; fruit, snacks, and bottled water will be available at the finish area. Packet pickup and race day registration take place inside the Wurlitzer Building, with an early packet pickup option the day before the race on September 18. Online registration remains open until race day. Registration fees vary by date: $30 through May 14, $35 from May 15 through July 31, and $40 from August 1 through race day. Participants who register by August 31, 2026 are guaranteed an event t-shirt in their requested size; later registrations receive shirts if available.
Net proceeds are donated to Diamonds in the Ruff Animal Rescue, a 501(c)(3) based in Niagara County. A weeklong basket raffle will also benefit that organization. The event schedule includes a celebration of National Sponge Candy Day, a post-race awards ceremony with prizes and giveaways, and live music at Fattey Beer Co - Wurlitzer after the race. Free parking is available at the Wurlitzer Building with overflow at a nearby Walmart.
Professional RFID timing is provided by Race Management Solutions; results and finish line photos are available through event timing services and associated platforms.
