Plaisir Sunday Hike - Simondium
Plaisir Sunday Hike is a self paced Sunday brunch hike at Plaisir Wine Estate in Simondium. It is presented as a curated outdoor lifestyle experience rather than a race or a guided tour. Participants follow a clearly marked route through vineyards and forest to a viewpoint where a picnic atmosphere is provided.
- Approximately 9.6 km round trip
- Ascent 5 km with ±330 m elevation gain on moderately technical single track
- Return 4.6 km through forest and vineyard trails
The overall outing lasts about 3 to 4 hours including time at the viewpoint. The route is described as accessible to most hikers with moderate fitness and basic hiking experience. Registration includes access to the estate hiking route, the marked trail to the viewpoint, a curated viewpoint picnic atmosphere, a complimentary taste of selected estate wine or a welcome snack, a conservancy contribution, and event management and safety oversight.
The concept centres on a bring your own picnic approach; guests are encouraged to bring picnic food, drinks and a reusable cup or glass. Standard entry is R199 per person, pensioners receive a 50% discount and children younger than 14 attend free. Capacity is limited. Participants must remain on marked trails, respect the environment, and observe restrictions such as no fires, no loud music and no drones. The event takes place outdoors and may be affected by weather conditions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
