Pittsburg Turkey Trot 5K
The Pittsburg Turkey Trot is an annual Thanksgiving morning community running event held in downtown Pittsburg on November 26, 2026. The event uses a chip-timed 5K course and welcomes runners, walkers, strollers, and well-behaved leashed dogs.
Participants receive a long-sleeve race shirt and a finisher medal. Results are recorded with chip timing and awards are given by age group, with divisions starting at 12 and under and continuing through 65 and older. The award ceremony is scheduled within 30 minutes of the final participant crossing the finish line.
Parking options include three city lots within walking distance of the start and finish, identified as City Lot 1, City Lot 4, and City Lot 10, and additional street parking is typically available. The event is scheduled to run in rain or shine; only severe weather with lightning will prompt a postponement of the start.
Organized by The Running Collective, the Turkey Trot has attracted more than 1,000 participants in a recent year. Registration, sponsorship, and community support for the event have helped raise more than $15,000 for local charitable efforts and nonprofit initiatives in Southeast Kansas.
