Pirkan Hölkkä
Pirkan Hölkkä is an annual long-distance mass event held on the first Sunday of October. The 56th edition takes place on 4.10.2026. The main route runs from Valkeakoski to Tampere and is largely off-road, combining groomed trails, forest roads and single-track paths. The full distance is 33 km, with roughly five kilometres on asphalt. Along the course there are six aid stations.
In addition to timed running categories, there is a walking category without timekeeping. Pirkan Kieppi, a shorter option, is held on the same day and covers 14 km. The event is organised jointly by Tampereen Taivaltajat ry and Valkeakosken Retkeilijät ry.
The event has a history reaching back to 1970 and the route has largely remained similar over time. Recent years have seen average participant numbers around 1 000 to 1 500 people. The event information mentions availability of a branded winter hat for pre-registration and notes that a volunteer-run variant called Talkoohölkkä will not be arranged in 2026.
