About the race
Pirkan Hölkkä is an annual long-distance mass running and walking event held on the first Sunday of October. The main route runs from Valkeakoski to Tampere and is primarily off-road, consisting of forest trails, gravel roads and paths. The course distance is 33 kilometres and includes about five kilometres of asphalt. There are six aid stations along the route.
In addition to timed running categories, there is a walking category without timekeeping. The event is organized jointly by Tampereen Taivaltajat ry and Valkeakosken Retkeilijät ry. The race has a history dating back to 1970, and in recent years average participation has been around 1 000 to 1 500 people.
