About the race
The Pioneertown event on March 20, 2027 is a road race in the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve near Joshua Tree National Park. The course runs through high desert terrain with hills and views of the Sawtooth Mountains. The elevation at Pioneertown is about 4,400 feet.

Both courses are chip timed for participants who want to race. The half marathon has a cut off time of 5 hours and the 10K has a cut off time of 4 hours. The event includes a race component with podium prizes for the top three female and top three male finishers on each course, for a total of 12 podium awards.
Packet pickup is held at The Sound Stage, also called The Barn, on Mane Street in Pioneertown. In the packet: bib and a John Wayne Grit Series shirt. Finishers receive a finisher mug and a finisher shirt at the finish line. Cancer survivors who register can collect a complimentary yellow bandana at packet pickup while supplies last.
The event is cup less. Runners should bring a handheld bottle or hydration pack. There are four water stations on the half marathon course and two on the 10K course. The event benefits the John Wayne Cancer Foundation and supports its cancer research and programs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
