Pioneertown Grit Series Run
The Pioneertown 2026 event is a trail running competition held in the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve, located near Joshua Tree National Park. The high-desert course sits at an elevation of 4,400 feet and is characterized by rugged terrain and hills, offering views of the Sawtooth Mountains. The event is part of the John Wayne Grit Series and serves to benefit the John Wayne Cancer Foundation's research and programs.
Participants can choose between two main distances:
- Half Marathon
- 10K
Both courses are chip-timed, and a cut-off time of five hours is in place for the Half Marathon, while the 10K has a four-hour limit. This event is a cup-less race, requiring participants to bring their own handheld water bottles or hydration packs to refill at aid stations. The Half Marathon includes four water stations, and the 10K includes two.
Registered runners receive a Grit Series shirt and a finisher mug upon completion. Cancer survivors who participate are eligible for a complimentary yellow bandana. The race infrastructure includes a podium prize component for the top three male and female finishers in each distance. Spectators are permitted, and free parking is provided at designated local areas such as the OK Corral. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
