Pilot Mountain Goat - Pinnacle, NC
The Pilot Mountain Goat event on December 19, 2026 takes place at Pilot Mountain State Park, 1792 Pilot Knob Park Road, Pinnacle, NC. The event offers two trail race distances and is limited to 150 runners total.
Distances
- 7 Mile course around the back and front of the mountain, finishes at the summit.
- 3 Miler course around the knob, finishes at the summit.
Both races start at the campground and end at the top of the mountain. Runners must return to their vehicles by running or walking back down the trail for 2.25 miles or arrange a ride; park staff cannot provide rides down the mountain. The first 49 cars will park at the campground; additional cars will use overflow parking.
What is provided with registration includes long sleeve technical shirts, awards for top finishers (top 3 men and women) and age group awards (top 3 in each 7 mile age group; first in each 3 mile age group), and a post-race breakfast. Registration prices range from USD 40.50 to 45.50 and registration closes on December 17 at 11:59 PM ET.
Packet pick-up is available Friday, December 18 from 4:00 to 5:30 PM outside the Pilot Mountain Visitor Center, and on race day at the starting area from 8:15 to 9:50 AM. No refunds are given; transfers to another person are allowed through December 16, 2026. The race will proceed rain or shine unless the state park closes for weather, in which case organizers will attempt to reschedule. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
