About the race
The Pilot Mountain Goat is a trail running event on December 19, 2026 at Pilot Mountain State Park in Pinnacle, NC (1792 Pilot Knob Park Road). The event offers two distances:
- 7 Miler
- 3 Miler
Both races start in the campground and finish at the top of the mountain. After the finish, participants must return about 2.25 miles down the trail to reach parked vehicles or arrange a ride; park staff will not provide rides down the mountain. Race capacity is limited to 150 runners total. The first 49 cars park at the campground; additional cars use overflow parking.
Registration details list fees between $40.50 and $45.50 (USD) and registration closes on December 17, 2026. Packet pick-up is available early outside the Pilot Mountain Visitor Center on December 18 and on race day at the starting area; the park opens at 8:00 am, and attendees should not arrive before then.
Registered participants receive long sleeve technical shirts. Awards are given to top finishers (top three men and women) and by age group (top three in each age group for the 7 mile and first place in each age group for the 3 mile). A post-race breakfast is provided. No refunds are issued; transfers of registration or distance changes are allowed through UltraSignup by December 16, 2026.
