Petzl Night Runner Rivington
The event is a night trail running meeting at Rivington, held as the final round of the Petzl Night Runner Series. The organiser frames the event with a "close encounters" theme linked to UFO reports and the radio masts on Winter Hill. The venue is Rivington and Blackrod High School, Rivington Lane, Bolton BL6 7RU.
The format uses reflective signs to mark the route and requires runners to use a good quality head torch or hand held torch. The terrain is rough, often boggy and rocky, and road shoes are not adequate. Participants are advised to wear trail or fell type shoes with an aggressive tread. Because the event takes place in winter, warm clothing and a wind or waterproof jacket are recommended.
Distances offered
- 10k trail race marked with reflective signs, head torch required.
- Half Marathon trail distance introduced in 2025.
The minimum age for both the 10k and Half Marathon is 16 years on the day. There is a free 1k kids event with medals for all finishers. Entry fees listed are £32 for the 10k and £39 for the Half Marathon. Entry includes a custom glow in the dark finisher's medal, free car parking, electronic timing (chip timing), medical cover, a custom race bib and drinks at the finish. Event photographs are available to download free after the event. Dogs may not run in the race but may attend as supporters at the start and finish.
