Petzl Night Runner Rivington
The Petzl Night Runner Rivington takes place at Rivington and Blackrod High School in Bolton. This night trail event serves as the final round of the Petzl Night Runner Series and features a theme inspired by local UFO folklore associated with Winter Hill. Participants navigate the course after dark using head torches or hand-held torches to follow a route marked with reflective signs.
The terrain at Rivington is characterized by rough, boggy, and rocky paths. Due to these underfoot conditions, participants are required to wear trail or fell running shoes with aggressive tread rather than standard road shoes. Warm clothing and wind or waterproof jackets are also recommended for the winter conditions.

- Half Marathon
- 10 km
- 1 km (Free event for children of participants)
The minimum age for both the 10 km and Half Marathon distances is 16 years on the race day. Entry fees cover chip timing, medical support, car parking, and a custom bib number. Finishers receive a "glow in the dark" medal and drinks at the finish line. Event photographs are provided after the race via a search-by-selfie function.
