Perpetua Coast trail runs
Perpetua Coast is a set of trail races held in Yachats, Oregon, within the Cape Perpetua National Scenic Area. The courses traverse coastal and forest landscapes, including rocky shoreline bluffs, sandy beaches, headland viewpoints and moss-draped old growth rainforest. The Cape Perpetua headland rises about 800 feet above the Pacific Ocean and offers long-distance views of the shoreline and sea on clear days.
The event includes multiple trail distances that follow routes through the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area and the village of Yachats. The local place names and landscape reflect the region’s cultural history: Yachats derives from the native term Ya’Xaik, and the Alsea people called the Cape Perpetua area Halaqaik, meaning the uncovered or open place. The event materials include a land acknowledgement noting that the races take place on the traditional lands of the Alsea peoples, who have been part of this landscape for at least 6,000 years.
The event continues a regional trail-running tradition that was hosted from 2014 to 2021 as the Oregon Coast trail runs by Rainshadow Running and has been carried forward by the current organizers since 2022.
